Teach4Me is designed to positively impact the outcomes our scholars deserve and build inroads for those who desire to join the work. The primary focus is to inundate urban schools with stakeholders of color—teachers, mentors, coaches, paraprofessionals, Restorative Justice Coordinators, parents and family members—on a consistent basis to establish presence mirroring the make up of the school and surrounding community.
Teach4Me also creates opportunity to build capacity within teachers who are not people of color to: understand the importance and impact of relationships; build and execute consistent classroom structures; learn about African and Latinx Diasporas, historical trends, popular culture, traditions, and experiences with which scholars identify and hold importance.
Teach4Me contains pathways for different stakeholders:
1. Pre-service and In-service teachers
2. School Leaders
3. Scholars, Families and Community Members
The Five Components of Teach4Me
1. Recruitment
2. Development
3. Retention
4. Mentorship
5. Empowerment
“Seeing the needs that existed at different levels moved me to leverage my knowledge base and experiences to raise awareness around the disparities within our teaching population. The voice and presence of teachers of color is needed.”
